This month we welcomed 17 new students from Brazil, Germany, Mexico, France, Japan, Korea, China and Saudi Arabia. It was very nice having the two groups from Thailand and France last month. We welcomed many students in May, but we also said good-bye to many of the students. Each class had a small farewell party to the students finishing this month. It is always sad to see them leave GEOS, but we know that we will keep in touch with them. That is why we have Facebook to be connected forever!
Please meet Andrew, our new instructor.
As a finance major from California State University, Fullerton, I never anticipated being an ESL teacher. During school, I got a job in Santa Ana teaching at-risk youth ESL and figured I'd stick with it for a while. Well, it turned out to be fun ...and I was good at it. This progressed into a journey to South Korea where I would be living and teaching ESL full-time. This changed my life in ways I can't properly express. Now that I'm back home in California, I'm continuing to do the thing I have most experience in: to connect with international students in meaningful and academic ways, and help them reach their language goals. The best part is, there's no math in this line of work!
GEOS welcomed a new instructor, Jackie.
Stay tuned for her introduction in our next newsletter!

Currently we have 19 nationalities represented in the school among our 140 students. We extend a warm welcome to all the students studying English with us!

My name is Dat and I am from Vietnam. I’ve been studying here at GEOS for five months now. The first time I came, I was very shy. But it didn’t take me too long to find out that GEOS was a very nice school. Teachers are friendly and they help you when you have a problem about anything. I met a lot of friends here, too. They come from many countries. In class, you ask the teachers some questions, but we also ask our classmates and we help each other. GEOS has helped me a lot to improve my English. I am having a very good time.

Some long-term students left GEOS this month. Giovanna and Kemmy from Brazil, Chiara from Italy, and Helle from Estonia were some from level 6. It was very nice to have them at our school. We are surely going to miss you! Good luck in your endeavors!
Some students rooted for the Angels when the faced off against the Oakland Athletics this month. It was their first time to see a baseball game in the U.S. and they had a blast.
Next, we’ll make them Lakers fans!
